Time revolution Night repair Borabit ampoule from Missha : Review

So today I’m going to review the famous Time revolution Night repair Borabit ampoule from Missha. Apparently, it was developed as a dupe of the famous Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I have a long experience with it. I have recommended a lot this serum and it is a staple of my own skincare regiment.

I am usually reluctant to recommend to everyone a specific product as each skin has its own specific requirement but not this one

Time revolution Night repair Borabit ampoule from Missha

The formula:

It is a complex and lengthy formula based on fermented ingredients but not only. Fermented ingredients are highly praised in Korean skincare technology and also found in Japanese cosmetics (the famous SK-II Facial Treatment Essence) and western cosmetics (Genefique from Lancôme and the iconic Advanced Night Repair from Estée Lauder).

I have listed the ingredient at the end of the blog post.

Fermentation:

All living organisms need the energy to build the bricks of life whether it is a bacteria or a complex animal like us (aka homo sapiens). This energy can be view as the gas that powers a car or the electricity that switch on an oven. Cells have two possible ways to convert biochemical energy into cellular energy: fermentation or cellular respiration. Fermentation is the ancestor of cellular respiration as it produces less energy from food than cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is what we used to power our cells it is the most advanced system to draw energy from food but it needs oxygen (O2). This is why we need oxygen.

Fermentation is an incomplete biochemical reaction that degrades nutrients (most of the time a sugar) that is then partially degraded into acid, gases, alcohol… If you want to know more about the biological process check the Wikipedia page.

The benefice of fermented ingredients:

Fermented ingredients are obtained from cell culture from (bifidobacterium culture, for example, the second ingredient of the Time revolution Night repair) or from the fermentation of a specific ingredient by a bacteria or a yeast. The fermentation process transforms and breaks down big molecules into smaller ones making them more absorbable by the skin.

If you want to have an insight into how Korean fermented ingredients are made read this article from the Klog.

The formula is at the end of this article.

Bifida Ferment Lysate:

Bifida Ferment Lysate is the star ingredient of this serum. It is actually a lysate (lysate = breaking down of the cells) of bifidobacterium releasing all the nutrients from it. Researchers have demonstrated that the Bifida Ferment Lysate diminish in vivo skin sensitivity and strengthen the skin barrier.

The Time revolution Night serum from Missha contained many others fermented ingredients increasing the benefice of the Bifida Ferment Lysate such as Rice Ferment Filtrate (fermented with Lactobacillus, skin brightening), Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, Soybean Ferment Extract (fermented with Lactobacillus, antioxidants)… All those fermented ingredients infuse the skin with potent nutrients necessary to the proliferation of the skin cells. The chemists behind this formula have added  Adenosine a perfect complement to fermented ingredients.

Potent antioxidants:

The Time revolution serum also contain numerous antioxidants forming a protective network to scavenge free radicals: Juniperus Chinensis Xylem Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (a form of vitamin E), Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (a form of vitamin E), retinol…

Skin brightening:

Niacinamide with bifida ferment lysate,

Skin soothing ingredients:

Bifida Ferment Lysate, Sorbus Commixta Extract, alpha glucan, panthenol, Ubiquinone…

A bunch of peptides to promote collagen synthesis

Tripeptide-10 Citrulline, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Bht, Copper Tripeptide-1, Tripeptide-1. All those peptides contribute to the anti-aging properties.

The texture:

The texture is lovely is not too watery and yet no to gelly like. It glides on the skin easily.

The finish:

Despite the profusion of beautiful ingredients, the Missha Time revolution Night repair does not feel sticky. It works perfectly layered under a light or rich moisturizer and goes hand to hand with the lovely Airy UV essence from Klairs. I suggest that you read and view my review on it.

The Marketing claims: are they accurate?

On the Missha USA website, this serum is marketed as improving skin damage, skin firmness, skin tone.

All those claims are highly supported by the formula but underrated. This serum also contained many humectants and antioxidants.

Comparison with the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair:

The Estée Lauder Advanced Night repair also contains the Bifida Ferment Lysate, Lactobacillus Ferment and yeast extract, hydrolyzed algin, hyaluronic acid (both humectants), vitamin E as antioxidants.

The formulation is definitely simpler and shorter. In certain cases I do prefer simple formula but no in this case. This formula does not stand a chance compared to the Missha Time revolution Night repair ampoule. I have listed the ingredients at the end.

Conclusion:

This serum is a masterpiece every single ingredient was carefully selected to provide an abundance of nutrients, humectants, skin soothing, skin brightening antioxidants, massive anti-aging properties, strengthening the skin barrier… This serum is an excellent complement to any skin care routine containing acid, retinol has it will help to heal the skin. I recommend using it morning and evening just before applying your moisturizer.

Now you know why I have been recommending and using the Time revolution Night repair Borabit ampoule from Missha in my own skincare routine since 2014.

A bientôt,

Cyrille
