What is one of the pillars of every skincare routine? Exfoliation of course and the best way to do it is to use an acid. The most common ones are AHA like glycolic acid. It is simple but so effective. It evens the complexion, diminishes pigmentation, brightens the skin, prevents pore clogging, diminishes breakouts, helps your moisturizers to work better, boosts cell proliferation…
Even though conventional AHA are amazing there is one acid that is simply amazing and that does more than exfoliating the skin. I present you Azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is used in dermatology to treat rosacea and acne. It has antibacterial activity especially against Propionibacterium acnes but not only, it also has anti-inflammatory properties and it is, of course, a chemical exfoliant.
Azelaic acid is not a popular ingredient despite the fact that it is one of the best actives that we have. Today’s I present you two French products that feature azelaic acid from Ducray.
Ducray is one of the oldest French pharmacy brands. Ducray makes hair care and skincare since the 30’ and recently I have discovered two incredible serums
Ducray Melascreen Depigmenting intense care
Azelaic acid is the second ingredient. I would love to know the concentration but Ducray doesn’t disclose the concentration. Glycolic acid is the seventh ingredients but you fell it. Glycolic acid produces a tingling sensation so it is not an insignificant concentration. The acids are blended with excellent emollients (caprylic/capric triglycerides mainly).
This peeling is a light cream in a pump. Therefore you can tailor the dose to your need. I recommend starting once a week as it is very potent. I love this product.
Notorious allergen
None!
Ducray Melascreen Photo-aging global serum
The global serum is basically the same as the intense care but less potent. The overall formula is the same but Azelaic acid comes in third position and glycolic acid at 5th position. It also has one peptide oligopeptide 68 that supposedly brightens the skin.
If you are afraid to start with the intense start with the global serum.
Notorious allergen
Perfume. It is very lightly perfumed, unfortunately.
My thoughts
I highly recommend the Ducray Melascreen Intense care to use to exfoliate your skin. It is sold as a skin brightening but it is a peeling. Overall I am really impressed. I’ve been using it for more than a month. I encourage you to layer it under your moisturizer.
Watch my video to know how to use those babies.
Thank you for your time.
